Women's Soccer Scores Talented Striker To Begin Their 2015 Recruitment

The CMU Women's Soccer Team is pleased to announce the commitment of Northland Parkway Collegiate striker Esther Schwartzkopf for the 2015-16 MCAC Soccer season.

Schwartzkopf was selected the 2014 MHSAA Rural Provincial Most Valuable Player last October when she captained her high school to a Zone Championship en route to a Provincial Girls Championship in her home town of Winkler.

"Esther has a nose for goal and has natural quickness that make her a very difficult forward for defenders to track," said Athletics Director Russell Willms who has been assisting in the recruiting of Schwartzkopf, "she is going to be a really important addition to our women's program next season and as the team moves forward."

In her Grade 11 season, the native of Freiburg, Germany was selected as a Rural Provincial Girls All-Star when her Nighthawks finished third at the 2013 Rural Provincial High School Championships.

Schwartzkopf plays her club soccer in the Winnipeg Women's Soccer League with Division 1 side South Central Hurricanes. in 2013, she helped the Hurricanes earn promotion when she topped her team with 9 goals in 14 matches and added 7 goals in 12 matches in the 2014 WWSL campaign.

The CMU women's futsal team is in action this Saturday and Sunday at Providence University College in the third stage of the MCAC's Futsal Championship, The Copa de la Paz. The Blazers will play the host Pilots on Saturday at 11am and later against the University of St-Boniface at 3:30pm. On Sunday the Blazers will complete the round robin portion of the tournament against the Red River Rebels at 2:45pm.
