Alberta Bound Men's Volleyball Team Challenges Edmonton University Colleges

There are still three weeks to go before Men's Volleyball steps into their first match of regular season competition in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, but the 2015 preseason is about to get under way for the Blazers with a series of exhibition matches this weekend in Northern Alberta.

Beginning on Thursday evening, CMU will meet the King's University College Eagles in Edmonton. The Eagles finished the 2014-15 Alberta Collegiate season with a record of 13 matches won and 11 losses, good for fourth place in the seven team ACAC North Division.

"It will be great to test ourselves against competition from Alberta," said third year team captain Joel Kliewer, "the quality of the Alberta colleges tends to be a higher calibre than the teams that we are used to seeing in Manitoba or Saskatchewan and we feel that our team depth is very good this year, so we are definitely ready to test ourselves."

On Friday the Blazers will enjoy an energetic pep-rally scrimmage against Strathcona Christian High School in the afternoon and face King's again in the evening in a rubber match on the high school court.

In their final tour match, CMU travels to Concordia University College to meet the Thunder, who compete in the ACAC's North Division alongside King's. Losers of all 24 conference matches in 2014-15, Concordia will look to catch CMU off their game and kickstart a better year. The Blazers and Thunder met in 2014 in preseason tournament action at Red River College where CMU took the match 3-1.

The Blazers return home for MCAC preseason action on Thanksgiving Weekend and travel to Toronto on October 15th for their final tune up for tournament play at Seneca College.
