The Pita Pit Female Athlete Of The Month - January

Congratulations to Kim Town of the Women's Volleyball Team on being selected The Pita Pit Female Athlete of the Month for January. The 6'1 first-year middle blocker has been an instrumental part of the Blazers climb from their lowest ever MCAC finish in 2015, back into the 2016 MCAC playoffs.

Perhaps the biggest win of the Women's Volleyball season came on January 16th when CMU defeated the USB Rouges on home court, 3-2. The win was the Blazers seventh conference win and all but solidified their claim to the final playoff position.

"Kim is a dominant force," said rookie head coach Evelyn Kampen, "she is an extremely dynamic middle who demonstrates a strong presence both in the front row as a huge blocker and attacker and in the back row with her service game and phenomenal defence."

The native of Orillia, Ontario is one of several rookies to step into the Blazers rotation and make an impact this season. On top of her outstanding individual play, Town has been counted on to be a leader on the court; something that has her coach has definitely noticed.

"Kim never gives up on the game," added Kampen, "she brings a high energy and continues to fire up her teammates."

Town and Women's Volleyball are back in action this weekend with two critical away games as they try to put the finishing touches on their playoff berth. On Friday, CMU travel to Providence to meet the Pilots (13-4) and on Saturday the Blazers are in St-Boniface to battle Les Rouges (4-12).
