Women's Volleyball Squad Bolstered By Former MBCI Hawks Outside Hitter

After improving by five wins in their 2015-16 season, the CMU women's volleyball team would like to announce the signing of former MBCI Hawk and Brandon Bobcat outside hitter, Katie Reeves for the upcoming MCAC campaign.

5'8 Reeves capped her high school career by lifting MBCI to the 2014 MHSAA 'AAAA' Girls Provincial Championship Final in her grade 12 season, earning selection as a 2015 Manitoba Volleyball Graduating All-star and a further honour of being ranked as the #4 high school player in the province by The Winnipeg Sun in their annual Top Ten Players poll.

"I am so happy that Katie has chosen to come to CMU this season," said second year CMU head coach Evelyn Kampen, "she is a very talented and skilled player with a high-speed arm swing and a huge vertical. Having a player of Katie's calibre and experience is of big benefit to our program."

Reeves went on to be a top recruit to the Brandon University Bobcats for 2015-16 where she ended a solid rookie campaign in the CIS and Canada West. Brandon hosted the National Championship and Reeves went on to receive selection as BU's Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year.

"Katie is not only a skilled athlete but demonstrates a competitive spirit and a very positive attitude," added Kampen, "she is a strong fit for CMU and a huge asset to our offense and our point-scoring."

Reeves is a product of local club program Shock Volleyball. Reeves and her club teammates won five successive provincial championships from 2011 to 2015 with Reeves receiving her team's Most Valuable Player award in 2014. Shock won bronze at the Canadian National Championships in 2015.

Reeves and the Blazers have recently made commitments to participate in the 2016 Wannamaker Invitational in Oakville, Ontario hosted at Sheridan College October 14-15th. Fans can see Reeves in home action on October 22nd, when CMU opens their 2016-17 MCAC regular season against the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen.
