Kirsten Friesen - September's Recovery Spot Female Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Kirsten Friesen of Women's Soccer on being selected The Recovery Spot Female Athlete of the Month for September.

The second-year forward was the first Blazers on the scoresheet to open the 2016 MCAC Women's Soccer campaign when she lifted her team to a 1-0 lead over Providence on September 10th. The 2014 graduate of MCI in Gretna, Manitoba then showed her versatility as she moved into midfield adjusted to playing as an outside defender to help her team through some challenging conference opponents.

"Kirsten has been one of our most improved players," said co-head coach Lianna Bestvater, "when she plays on the wing she has been great at getting to the goal and finishing. She has also improved in her versatility and adjusted into being a solid tactical defender."

Last weekend, the Blazers began to turn their season around when they travelled to Thunder Bay for two friendlies against the Thunder Bay Chill U17 girls. After a 1-1 draw in their first match, Friesen found the back of the net for the second time this month to help her team to a 3-0 win ond Day 2.

Women's Soccer is back to MCAC action this weekend when they tackle the formidable Red River Rebels on Saturday, October 1st at 12pm at Norm Konowalchuk Field at Red River College. The next home action for the Blazers is October 8th when they host the Brandon Bobcats at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex at 12pm.
