Women's Basketball Deal With Full Court Press On Both Sides Of The Border

With a perfect record of 3-0 in MCAC conference play, Women's Basketball is ready to enter the busiest part of their semester beginning tonight when the Blazers host a familiar face in the Providence Pilots. Next up for CMU, the Blazers travel to Minnesota on Friday to take the court against the AFLBS Conquerors in Plymouth. The series in Minnesota will mark the first official competitions in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) for CMU.

The Blazers are somewhat familiar with some members of their new affiliation. CMU has played exhibition games across the US border for the last three seasons against the Trinity Lions, who currently lead the NIAC Women's Standings with a 2-0 record. The Blazer women also tipped-off twice with the Leech Lake Lakers during their 2015-16 exhibition season.

This weekend will mark CMU's first ever meeting with AFLBS. The Plymouth, Minnesota outfit got off to a rocky start in their 2016-17 season with back to back losses to the Lions, the second by a more narrow margin of 13 points, so this weekend's back to back will see the Conquerors and Blazers searching for their first wins.

"We need to go in and be confident and competitive," said fourth year guard Cassie Wiebe, "This league is going to be competitive and we definitely need to bring our best game in order to be successful."

Following games with Providence and AFLBS, CMU returns to home court next Tuesday to tipoff with the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen before welcoming their inaugural NIAC home games against the Cankdeska Wolves on November 18th and 19th.

"I think we have only grown stronger as a team and we are ready for this challenge," added Wiebe, "we have been preparing for this kind of competition since we found out about the NIAC last spring and we are definitely ready for to give it our best."

The action begins tonight at 6:00pm with the Providence Pilots at the Loewen Ahtletic Centre and more information about the NIAC basketball can be found at www.naicsports.wordpress.com.
