Streaking Blazers Setting Up For Another Big Match With The Rebels

Women's Volleyball has had a series of tough matches and have been up for the challenge. After falling on home court to the Red River Rebels on November 4th by a 3-1 decision, the Blazers have rattled off two consecutive wins over competitive rotations.

On Remembrance Day, CMU defeated Les Rouges de USB in straight sets in what was a very well played and competitive match, packed with long rallies, great attacks and resilient play in the backrow. Then on Sunday night, the Blazers went to the Duckworth Centre and took a second weekend victory; a win in four sets over the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen.

"We are starting to find some good chemistry in our rotation," said second year head coach Evelyn Kampen, "our defense has been excellent and we are confident in our passing."

Second year outside hitter Katie Reeves is back at 100% health after an ankle injury in late September hampered her ability to contribute to her full potential in October. The former MBCI Hawks attacker scored 15 kills on Friday's three set win over USB and added 14 more on Sunday night against the College Wesmen. Reeves also added 14 digs and 8 service aces to lead her Blazers to consecutive wins.

Now, having pushed their record to 5-2, CMU sit deadlocked with the Red River Rebels for second place in the MCAC Women's Volleyball standings. On top of this, the 2016-17 schedule has the Blazers and Rebels set to clash again on Friday night at Red River College for their final meeting of the semester in a match that will settle move one of the teams into third place and other into a first-place tie with the Providence Pilots.

"Red River has an incredible defensive game, "explains Reeves, "in our last meeting, our passing was actually pretty decent. We need to run a bit more attacking out of middle and that will help us alot in the rematch on Friday night."

Saturday's scheduled match at home against the Providence Pilots has been rescheduled for Women's Volleyball. The make up date is now scheduled for Wednesday, November 30th at 7pm. The men's match against Providence will still be played this Saturday night, but first serve has been moved forward to 6pm.
