Women's Volleyball Begins New Year By Signing First Recruit Of 2017-18

Fresh off a road trip into Alberta to start the New Year, Women's Volleyball is thrilled to introduce their first recruit of the 2017-18 season; two-time MHSAA 'AAA' Provinicial Allstar Renee Desroches.

The Dauphin Regional setter led the Clippers to zone banners in 2015 and 2016, winning the AAA Varsity Girls Provincial Championship in 2015 and finishing second in 2016. Desroches consistently strong performances earned her selection to the 2016 Manitoba Volleyball A-AAA Graduating Allstar Game played at St. Paul's High School in December.

In 2016 tournament play, the 5'6 setter was twice recognized as a Tournament Allstar. Desroches drove the Clippers to the final of the Varsity Girls Tournament at the University of Regina and Dauphin went on to win the Neelin Dig Tournament that took place in Brandon.

"Renee is a confident and intelligent setter," said second year head coach Evelyn Kampen, "her strengths are her agility and her decision-making. She is not afraid to take risks and her high-speed sets will be a huge benefits to our team's offence next season."

The product of Brandon's 'Cats Volleyball Club also competes for her high school in badminton, basketball, curling, fastball and beach volleyball and has received Dauphin's Top Female Student-Athlete Award every year.

The Blazers are back in MCAC action this Friday night, hoping to improve on their 8-3 record when they meet the Red River Rebels (5-6). The next home action for CMU is January 17th when they host the undefeated Providence Pilots (currently 9-0).
