Katie Reeves - January's Recovery Spot Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Katie Reeves of Women's Volleyball on being selected the Recovery Spot Female Athlete of the Month for January.

It's been a fabulous month for the product of Winnipeg's MBCI, who helped her team secure a comfortable grip on second-place in the MCAC standings with 6 wins in January, paired with only one defeat; a five set marathon with the conference-leading Providence Pilots.

Despite losing the match, Reeves was at her best scoring a massive 24 kills on 48 attempts and adding 2 aces against the MCAC's best serve-receive rotation. Against the ACC Cougars in a two match series a few days later, the 5'8 power led the Blazers with 12 kills in a 3-1 win on January 20th and 13 kills in a 3-0 win on January 21st, when Reeves added 8 aces from the service line. Her 14 kills on Saturday in a 3-0 win at Universite de St-Boniface, leaves Reeves with 199 kills on the season.

"I'm extremely impressed with Katie's effectiveness in offense and her consistency in serve-receive and defence," said head coach Evelyn Kampen, "she is a well-rounded player who demonstrates a calm confidence on the court and she's led us to a lot of wins this season."

Reeves and the Blazers are off to Otterburne on Friday night where they still have a chance to catch the first-place Pilots with three matches remaining in the regular season. CMU returns home on Saturday night to host the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen at 6 pm.
