Isaac Recognized By Basketball Manitoba as 2016-17 MCAC Coach Of The Year

After four seasons in charge, Head Coach Billy Isaac won the grand prize in Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Men's Basketball in February, claiming CMU's  first conference championship banner in almost a decade. On Saturday afternoon, Isaac was recognized by Basketball Manitoba at their 2017 Awards Banquet at the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg, as the MCAC Men's Basketball Coach Of The Year.

Isaac's Blazers finished with a combined record of 14-10 (7-5 in their provincial conference, MCAC, and 7-5 south of the border in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) through the 2016-17 regular season and peaked at the right time, finishing with four consecutive wins including the Championship Final over the winners of the previous eight seasons; Red River Rebels.

"This is a great honour for Billy and for CMU, to be recognized by a Provincial Sport Organization in this way," said Athletic Director Russell Willms, "Billy and his family have been very committed to the success of this program and recognition by Basketball Manitoba in front of his coaching peers validates the hours he's spent in the gym and what he's been able to accomplish in his 4 years in the MCAC."

Along with Isaac, CMU volleyball head coaches, Evelyn Kampen (Women's) and Don Dulder (Men's) were also recognized by the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference in March for their conference championship victories. For Kampen, this was her first Coach of the Year selection, after just two seasons in the coaching ranks. Dulder led CMU their their first Men's Volleyball Championship in history in February, this coming in his third season with the Blazers.
