Lydia Balsillie: September's CMU Blazers Women's Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Lydia Balsillie of Women's Soccer on being selected the CMU Blazers Athlete of the Month for September. The second-year goalkeeper has backstopped her team to top spot in the MCAC after back to back wins to end the month; 6-0 over ACC Cougars and a 1-0 win against the defending MCAC Champions, Brandon Bobcats.

Balsillie's individual run of form is even more impressive. After five conference matches played, the graduate of Winnipeg's Westgate Mennonite Collegiate has yet to concede a goal. Five matches and five clean sheets; bettering her three successive matches without allowing a goal record that she set in her rookie season.

"Lydia leads our team from the back and has made timely saves and stopped multiple breakaways this month," said co-coaches Lianna Bestvater and Cara Isaak, "she has owned her 18 yard box and along with our defensive line of Kirsten Friesen, Anna Lysack and Marijka Yaschyshyn have been a big part of our climb to the top of the standings."

Balsillie and the Blazers are back in action on Thanksgiving Weekend, looking to continue their strong play when they meet USB Rouges on Saturday at Memorial Park. Les Rouges sit third in the conference standings with a record of 3 wins and 2 losses and are coming off a 1-0 defeat of the Red River Rebels on Sunday afternoon.
