Rachel Oswald: January's CMU Blazers Female Athlete Of The Month

Congratulations to Rachel Oswald of Women's Volleyball on being selected the CMU Blazers Female Athlete of the Month for January. The fifth-year outside hitter helped her team to a January conference record of 3-1 and started the month with a respectable seventh-place finish in the twelve team Adidas Cup Challenge at Durham College.

Oswald's 31 kills this month vaulted the team captain into second place on the team, with her most productive match coming last Saturday against the ACC Cougars in Brandon. The product of Winnipeg's Kildonan East Collegiate recorded 11 kills on 35 attempts for a kill percentage of 32.86% with only 3 errors. On top of that, Owsald showed her versatility  by scoring 6 stuff blocks and adding 20 digs.

"She defended very will this month, in particular on the weekend at ACC where she really stepped up when the scores were tight," said Oswald's head coach Evelyn Kampen, "I value Rachel highly - she is an aggressive attacker and her winning mentality will be a huge asset for us as we approach the playoffs."

Saturday night will mark Oswald's final home match of her CMU career. The 5'10 left-side came to CMU as a transfer from the ACAC's Lakeland Rustlers where Oswald spent her first two college seasons. CMU Athletics will recognize Oswald along with Men's Volleyball graduates Owen Baerg, Thomas Friesen, Jason Friesen and Joel Kliewer before their matches versus the Providence Pilots in the Loewen Athletic Centre on Saturday evening. First serve in the men's match is scheduled for 6:00pm with the women's first serve currently scheduled for 7:30pm.
