Kampen Steps Down After Three Strong Seasons Leading Women's Volleyball

Evelyn Kampen has been a big part of the CMU Athletics program for six seasons. Three years as the MCAC's most dominant outside hitter and after two seasons of professional volleyball in Europe, a return to CMU for three years as a head coach. Last month Kampen confirmed that she will be moving onto other ventures. She leaves a legacy of success and has built a strong foundation for the program's future.

The Kampen-led Blazers hold a winning percentage of 60.7% over the past three seasons, combining for 34 wins with only 22 defeats. The head coach took over a team that held a record of 3-17 in 2014-15, improving to 8-12 in 2015-16. Kampen and the Blazers would take another big step in 2016-17, finishing with a record of 16-4 and winning their first MCAC banner since 2010. This season CMU qualified for their second consectutive MCAC Women's Volleyball Final after a regular season that saw the Blazers play to a solid 10-6 record.

"Evelyn coached with passion and personality," said Athletics Director Russell Willms. "Evelyn's volleyball experience at the college, university and professional level made her an asset to the program. Her knowledge of her sport, the conference and the fact that she studied and graduated from CMU, allowed her to thrive here in all aspects of coaching. We wish her well and thank her for all of her contributions to CMU."

Kampen's move away from coaching at CMU coincides with the opening of The Beach Volleyball Centre where she will oversee facility programming, leagues and special events at Winnipeg's new indoor Beach Volleyball Centre. Being able to work in and around volleyball full-time was too big of an opportunity for Kampen to pass on. The Beach celebrates their Grand Opening on April 21.
