Two More Solid Additions Have Women's Soccer Very Optimistic About 2018

Women's Soccer continues to take shape for the upcoming 2018 Manitoba Colleges season with the addition of a pair of versatile midfielders; Tiegan Kroeker (left) and Susanna Derksen (right).

"Tiegan is an extremely fit and fast player," said CMU co-head coach Cara Isaak. "She is constantly moving off the ball and she makes great forward runs. Defensively, she incredibly tenacious and is a strong tackler."

Kroeker played premier youth soccer with Winnipeg South End United until she began high school at Fort Richmond Collegiate. As a Centurion, she captained her high school team and was selected team MVP in her senior year. She was also recognized by her south-Winnipeg high school with the prestigious Jim Daly Award given to an FRC student-athlete who demonstrates fairplay, teamwork and outstanding support of the athletics program.

On top of soccer, Kroeker took up ice hockey at Fort Richmond in Grade 10. She was selected her team's Most Improved Player and was team captain in her final high school season.

Joining Kroeker on the pitch with the Blazers next season is Kelvin High School's Susanna Derksen. Derksen played Winnipeg Youth Soccer with Portage Trails SC and St. Charles before moving away from premier youth at the under-17 level in favour her local community club team; the Corydon Comets.

Most of the holding midfielder's soccer development can be credited to the CSSE (Chico's School of Soccer Excellence) Impact where Derksen was part of the Winnipeg/Stonewall academy program from grades 4 to 10. With CSSE, Derksen travelled to Barcelona in 2014 and won a silver medal at Spain's Copa Costa Brava Tournament.

"Susanna will be a great addition to our midfield," said co-head coach Lianna Bestvater. "She has the ability to see and make plays. She is a very good passer who is strong on the ball and can make smart runs away from it."

Derksen, Kroeker and Women's Soccer are yet to officially release their 2018 MCAC schedule but confirmed is the Blazers annual weekend in Northern Ontario, September 22-23 when CMU tackles the Thunder Bay Chill Reserves.
