New Men's Soccer & Men's Basketball Recruit A Double-Threat

It's not every day that an incoming CMU Blazers recruit ends up signing on to compete in two different sports, but for 2017 Shaftesbury High School graduate Kieran Baydock, playing university soccer and basketball will be nothing new to him. After being selected Shaftesbury's Male Athlete of the Year in his final year of high school, Baydock left Manitoba for UBC Okanagan where he red-shirted for the Heat's USports Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball teams in the 2017-18.

Committed to staying in Winnipeg, Baydock is looking to not only play, but to and make an impact on the MCAC field and on the NIAC hardcourt.

"I first reached out to Kieran in his Grade 12 year in hopes of bringing him into our soccer program," said former Men's Soccer head coach Russell Willms. "It was certainly exciting to get an email from him two weeks ago stating his interest in joining us this year and then hearing from Billy ((Isaac) that he had also been in touch with Kieran about playing basketball here as well."

Baydock starred as a wingback on Winnipeg's Phoenix SC premier boys where he helped the youth club to an MSA Cup Championship and a u16 Nationals appearance in Surrey, BC. The defender was mentored though Chico's School of Soccer Excellence and participated in the academy's selection to the Showcase Tournament in Omaha. Baydock is now competing with Hellas SC in the Manitoba Major Soccer League where the club sits fourth in the premier division.

Baydock finished his Shaftesbury High School basketball career with a stellar Grade 12 season competing in the MHSAA's 'AAAA' Tier 2. The 6'2 wing was a Tournament All-Star at the St. James and Selkirk tournaments and Baydock was selected the Titans Varsity Boys Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season.

"Kieran is a very heady player; he plays completely under control," said CMU Men's Basketball Head Coach Billy Isaac, "This will help our team along with the experience he has gained from being around and playing in a USports program. It will undoubtedly be an asset to our young team."

Baydock and the Men's Basketball team are scheduled to tipoff the 2018-19 preseason on Friday, September 28th at Red River College against Aberta's St. Mary's Lightning. Baydock will make his Men's Soccer debut on September 9th for CMU when they host the USB Rouges.
