A New Soccer Season Dawns

The CMU Blazers are within hours of kicking-off their 2011 MCAC soccer season tomorrow afternoon on the John Scouras Field at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex, 900 Waverley Street – the brand new home of CMU Soccer. The new look Blazers will renew an age-old derby with Providence University College at 1PM (women) and 3PM (men).

The Blazer women boast a number of returning players that will provide valuable leadership and league experience to an otherwise young squad. These include Sylvie Kroeker, Sam Blatz, Rianna Isaak, Meghan Kjartanson, Maraleigh Short, goalkeeper Esther Klassen and their 2010 MVP Chrissy Scheerer.

Coach Anika (Den Brok) Southam has also gained a very valuable year of league experience and expects that the 2011 Blazer women will be a competitive bunch.

The CMU men will also count on a few veterans to lead the way into their first match. Fourth-years Adam Janzen and Chris Epp-Tiessen are well-versed in the team system and are fully committed to the cause. Scott Feick, Matt Mayers and Sean Dyck represent the remaining returnees, all having made significant contributions to the team in the 2010 campaign.

CMU Athletics would encourage you to come out and support your Blazers in their 2011 debut.
