Blazers Bound for Alberta To Start Preseason

Members of the 2011 CMU women’s and men’s basketball teams boarded a charter bound for Edmonton this morning where the Blazers will take part in the 2011 King’s University College Tournament.

The CMU women tip-off Thursday night when they play the host Eagles at 6 pm. The Blazer men will also face the hosts in the 8 pm contest. Friday evening the CMU men will take on Augustana University of Camrose at 6 pm followed by the CMU women versus MacEwan University at 8 pm. In Saturday’s schedule the CMU men will tip-off with Grand Prairie Regional at 12 noon and the women will play Olds College at 2 PM.

It is a homecoming of sorts for CMU first-year post Sean Baergen. The 6’7 product of Harry Ainley High School in Edmonton is only a few weeks into his CMU basketball career and is looking forward to a reunion with his home province and familiarity of Edmonton competition.

All six games that CMU is featured in at King’s University College will see the Manitoba university gain valuable experience against Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association opponents, something that is a priority for both the Blazers and the MCAC.
