Blazer Beat Rebels To Begin MCAC Season

The CMU women’s volleyball team rolled over Red River College on Wednesday night 3-0 to jump out to the early lead in the MCAC women’s standings. It was a bitter-sweet win for the Blazers as second-year left-side, Clare Schellenberg, who missed the second half the 2010 season to an ACL injury to her right knee, suffered what appears to be a serious injury to her left knee early in the match. CMU was able to keep their composure and push forward in her absence. First-year left-side Taylor Bain stepped in for CMU and pounded 8 kills over 3 sets while fifth-year Evelyn Kampen led the way with 10 kills.

The next action for CMU is next Wednesday night in the historic Providence-CMU rivalry. Last season the Blazers and Freemen met in the Gold Medal Match of the MCAC Championships with Providence winning in a marathon tie-breaking fifth-set. Match times next week are 6 and 8 PM.
