Blazers Over-power Providence in Straight Sets

Evelyn Kampen scored 12 kills for CMU on Wednesday night, as the Blazers dismantled the defending MCAC Women’s Volleyball Champions 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-20) to move to 2-0 on the season.

Providence appeared to struggle out of the gate, unable to get quality attacking opportunities for 2010 Championship MVP Victoria Ryshytylo or dominant first-year left-side Atira Clunis. CMU middles Breanne Giesbrecht and Kristen Coleman showed their experience and confidence on home court, making every point a challenge for the Freemen. Giesbrecht finished with 3 stuff blocks to lead the Blazers.

First-year left-side Taylor Bain received her first placement in the CMU starting rotation versus Providence and the 5’10 product of J.H. Bruns continued to show excellent form, contributing 5 kills and collecting 2 service aces.

The next action for the undefeated Blazers is next Tuesday evening at Universite de St-Boniface. First-serve is scheduled for 6 PM.
