College Wesmen No Match For Blazers

CMU’s women’s volleyball team successfully moved to 5-0 this weekend in conference play, after sweeping the University of Winnipeg on Saturday and Sunday night, 3-0 and 3-0.

Two-time conference MVP, Evelyn Kampen was at her best scoring 37 kills over six-sets – 17 on Saturday and 20 on Sunday. The 5’9 product of River East was also contributing defensively, collecting 19 digs through the weekend series.

Third-year middle Breanne Giesbrecht also did her part, contributing 17 kills through two matches and leading the team with 11 stuff-blocks including an incredible 9 block performance in Saturday night’s win.

Saturday saw Maxine Delaney chip in with 5 kills in support, while Kristen Coleman added 5 kills to the Blazers total on Sunday.

“This was by far our most consistent matches of the season so far”, said satisfied CMU coach Andrea Charbonneau, “Our passing and serving and set distribution was key for us this weekend. I was very proud of how they all played and most importantly the focus and intensity they brought in each set.”

The Blazers will attempt to move to 6-0 this Wednesday evening when they host the winless Universite de St-Boniface women on home court at 6 PM.
