CMU Jumps On Home Court Advantage

After suffering an overtime loss on Wednesday night at Providence, the Blazer women bounced-back to win at home on Friday night 61-47 and pull their conference record back to 3-3.

Current MCAC Female Athlete of the Week, Carrera Lamoureux was held to just 7 points by the Freemen on Wednesday night, but on this occasion the Providence game-plan couldn’t contain the second-year guard who scored a game-high 24 points.

After jumping into the lead in the first quarter, the Blazers watched as Providence’s Melanie Warkentin hit back-to-back shots from downtown, as part of an 11-0 run, capturing the lead and forcing a CMU timeout.

Lamoureux and the Blazers would respond with a 14-2 run of their own to hold a 28-24 lead at the half. Fouth-year guard Mallory Shack was a big contributor in that run scoring 8 of her 14 points in the second quarter.

Down the stretch, the Freemen could find no answers to the CMU offense. Second-year forward Kathleen McCullough emerged in the final quarter with 9 of her 15 points to drive the Blazers to a double-digit lead at the buzzer.

The next action for CMU is Friday night when they travel north on route 90 to Red River College for a date with the Rebels at 6 PM.
