Crossing-Over To Minnesota To Start 2012

The CMU men’s basketball team is entering the new year riding-high. After starting their conference schedule on the back-foot, suffering three consecutive losses, the Blazers carried a five-game win streak into the holiday break and have high expectations as they start their second-half.

The Blazers travel to Bemidji, Minnesota tomorrow for the second-annual MCAC-NIAC Crossover Tournament hosted by Oak Hills Christian College, where they tip-off with the Trinity Bible College Lions from Ellendale, North Dakota at 4:00 PM. The CMU women face Turtle Mountain Community College later at 5:45 PM.

Not much is known about CMU’s first-round opponents as the Blazers and Trinity have not played each other since 2008. One person who is familiar with the Lions, is fifth-year forward Nick Miller who will be back in full-time action for the Blazers this weekend. The 6-2 product of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate spent his last two season with the Manitoba Bisons of the CIS, but has opted to return to CMU for his final year of eligibility.

“Trinity is a very good team and I think we match-up well with them”, comments Miller, “They really fed off of a loud home crowd when we visited their gym a few years back, so it will be our advantage to play them at a neutral site this weekend.”

Head Coach Darcy Coss is also excited to have Miller back and to start the Winter Semester with some competitive US competitions. “Nick does a lot more for our team that simply add depth. He is a top-level competitor, a great team leader and a player who can beat teams on both ends of the court. Though we haven’t faced Trinity in a few years, we have had very similar results against Dakota College at Bottineau and Mayville State, so we are really expecting this game to be a great test for us.”

With a win, the Blazers will advance to face Providence University College in Saturday’s semi-final. Sunday’s men’s final is slated for Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM. You can follow the scores and stats at here.
