CMU Impresses in Thrilling Overtime Win

Kathleen McCullough posted her first career double-double as the Blazers grabbed a massive home win over the Red River Rebels in overtime, 69-66 on Saturday afternoon.

The second-year forward followed up an impressive 15 rebound performance on Friday night with 16 points and 10 rebounds, including 3-for-9 shooting from beyond the 3-point line.

The home team kept pace with the Rebels in the opening quarter, but had a defensive meltdown in the second, allowing their opponents to their largest lead 40-24 midway through the period.

Carrera Lamoureux would again spark the Blazers in the second-half on the offensive and defensive sides of the court. The second-year product of The King’s School forced 5 steals, grabbed 9 rebounds and scored a team-high 20 points to help CMU tie the game at 62-62 and send the game into overtime.

The two teams seemed destined to play a second overtime period as the seconds ticked-down, tied 66-66, when Laura Tait banked in the game-winning basketball with 8.3 left on the clock. “It was such an important win for us and such a fun game,” said CMU enthusiastic head coach Christie Anne McCullough. “We felt really good about the way we played last night and we managed to pull it all together today and beat a very good opponent.”

The win moves the Blazers to 4-6 in conference play. The next home game for CMU is January 28th when they host the first-place Winnipeg College Wesmen at 2pm.
