Inaugural Copa de la Paz Kicks-Off at CMU

The fast-paced sport of Futsal invaded the Loewen Athletic Centre at CMU on Friday night with the Copa de la Paz Tournament. Matches got underway at 6PM with Red River College taking on the University of St-Boniface in men’s action. The CMU women defeated Providence by a score of 6-1 to position themselves at the top of the table entering Saturday’s round-robin matches.

In what was the most exciting match Day 1, the CMU men drew with Providence 10-10. The match saw the Freemen jump out to a 3-0 lead, but the Blazer claw back to tie and then take a lead of 9-5 into half-time.

Ahead by a goal with time expiring, Dale Danso scored for Providence to draw the teams level at the buzzer. The CMU men sit in a four-way tie after St-Boniface and Red River also drew 4-4 earlier in the day.

Round-robin matches resume Saturday morning at 10AM with the CMU women kicking-off with Red River and the Blazer men facing the Rebels at 11AM. The Championship Finals will take place at 7PM (women) and 8PM (men) on Saturday night.


6PM – USB draws with RRC 4:4 (men)

7PM – CMU defeats Providence 6:1 (women)

8PM – RRC draws with USB 3:3 (women)

9PM – CMU draws with Providence 10:10 (men)
