Blazers Perfect Through Sixteen

The CMU women’s volleyball team moved to 16-0 in conference play on Friday night after making short-work of the fifth-place University of St-Boniface Voyageurs on home court, 3:0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-12), winning the match in less than an hour.

Fifth-year left-side Evelyn Kampen led the Blazers with 13 kills through three sets, but it was a match that saw the whole roster earn court-time.

On Thursday night the same teams met across the river in St-Boniface in a match that mirrored tonight’s contest. The Blazers posted a straight-set win (25-10, 25-15, 25-16) and were led in the victory by middle-blocker Breanne Giesbrecht. The 6’1 native of southern-Ontario amassed 11 service aces in the match, adding 6 kills and 3 solo stuff-blocks.

The undefeated Blazers are back on home court on Wednesday night when they will face the defeading MCAC women’s volleyball champions Providence Freemen at 6 pm. The Freemen currently sit in second-place in the conference with a record of 12-3.

The CMU men’s volleyball team lost a close affair with les Voyageurs on Thursday night, 3:1 (25-15, 17-25, 27-25, 25-21) to drop to 3-10 on the MCAC season. The Blazer men currently hold down the fourth and final position for the conference championship weekend coming up on February 24-25 in Otterburne, Manitoba
