Blazers Rebound in Rubber Match With St-Boniface

CMU responded in a big way on Friday night when they hosted Universite de St-Boniface in MCAC men’s volleyball action, rebounding from deficits in every set to upset the #3 ranked Voyageurs in straight-sets (25-22, 28-26, 25-23). It was a thrilling win for the home team, who on Thursday night dropped a 3-1 result to the same opponents away at St-Boniface.

The Blazers were led offensively by Todd Reimer (12 kills), Shawn Franz (12 kills) and Josh Krueger (11 kills) in what was a very balanced attack. It was again the selective hands of first-year setter Selanne Sangalang that provided service to the CMU swingers, who has shown consistent improvement during the season as has his team.

“Jack of All Trades” Brad Muller filled in admirably at left-side for regular injured starter Rodger Toews who was sidelined in the first set with a sore shoulder. The native of Minnetonas, Manitoba has been the consummate team-player for the Blazers through the years, starting the first-set at power and finishing the match as a middle blocker. Brad has indeed been the ultimate team-guy again this season,” stated head coach Mark Kliewer, “always ready to play and able to play well at any position that we need help in.”

The win improves the Blazers record to 4-10 on the season, good for the final playoff position in the conference with two matches left to play. CMU hosts Providence University College on Wednesday night in a non-league match at 8pm.
