Little Caesar’s Pizza Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to Nina Schroeder of the women’s basketball team and Josh Krueger of the men’s volleyball team on being selected the Little Caesar’s Pizza Blazer Athletes of the Month for January.

It was an exciting month in women’s basketball as the Blazers started the new year in Bemidji, Minnesota at the NIAC-MCAC Crossover Tournament. Schroeder led her team in rebounding in both tournament games and has been a consistent contributor offensively, putting up double-digit numbers on the scoresheet.

The graduate of MBCI in Winnipeg posted an excellent weekend against the Red River Rebels on January 13-14, scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in Friday’s narrow loss and and followed that with a 9 points and 12 rebounds in an overtime win against their long-time MCAC rivals.

After a rocky start to the MCAC season, the CMU men’s volleyball team is starting to find their way as they near the end of the regular season. Fourth-year middle Josh Krueger has lead by example on and off the court. The Blazers began the new year with a series-split in Brandon against the ACC Cougars, a match that saw the 6’3 product of Delta, BC sidelined with an ankle injury.

Krueger returned to action in week 14 of the MCAC season in two critical matches against St-Boniface. After falling to les Voyageurs away from home, the Blazers rebounded in a big way when the series shifted back to CMU. In a straight-set win, Krueger paced the Blazers with 11 kills and 5 stuff blocks.
