Lamoureux Drives Into CIS With Brandon Bobcats

Blazers point-guard Carrera Lamoureux is the second CMU basketball player to declare that she will make the jump from the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference to the CIS for the 2012-13 season.

In two seasons with the Blazers the 5’7 guard has won CMU Female Rookie of Year honors, team Most Valuable Players honors and back-to-back all-conference selections.

“It is certainly sad to see two great players leaving our programs,” Director of Athletics Russell Willms stated about Lamoureux departure and the earlier announcement of Wyatt Anders of the men’s basketball team who will move up to play in the CIS with the Manitoba Bisons in 2012-13, “but both of them have worked diligently to improve through the MCAC to now be ready to play at the CIS level. We are proud of Carrera and excited to see her carry CMU with her into her new team and league.”

Like her coach Christie Anne McCullough before her, who departed for the Brandon Bobcats after starting her collegiate basketball career with the Blazers, Lamoureux is expected to play immediately in the Brandon backcourt.

“Carrera was a surprise when she showed up at our ID camp and instantly demonstrated the level of skill of an everyday CIS player,” said new Bobcat coach Novell Thomas. “CIS basketball is a big jump up from the college game but I’m confident that she’ll adapt quickly.”

CMU women’s basketball fans won’t have to wait very long to see Lamoureux in action with the CIS Bobcats, as Brandon University has committed to participate in the third-annual Holiday Inn Airport-West Invitiational Basketball Tournament at CMU in October.
