Massey Middle Joins CMU Rotation

The CMU women’s volleyball team is pleased to announce the addition of middle blocker Alanna Johnson for the upcoming MCAC season. The 6’0 product of Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg recently returned from a year of travel with CMU’s Outtatown Program culminating with three months in South Africa.

Among Johnson’s high school volleyball accomplishments was a division championships in her grade 12 year and a Female Athlete of the Year selection in grade 11 at Vincent Massey. As a member of Trojans volleyball club, Johnson competed in the 2009 Canadian Club Nationals and in 2010 she participated with Trojans at the Ocean Beach Tournament in San Diego, California.

“Alanna is a valuable addition to our team and fills a big whole that we had at middle with the graduation of Kristen Coleman,” said head coach Andrea Charbonneau-Harrison, “She is a great young leader and we expect her to be able to step in and contribute to our team right away.”

Johnson and the Blazers will have a difficult task if they hope to build on the regular season successes of 2011-12: a season that saw CMU go through all MCAC competitions undefeated. The challenge of the new season will be to find success in the conference championships, where the Blazers have fallen in consecutive years to Providence University College with gold on the line.
