Blazers Adds Trio Of Guards

The CMU men’s basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Saskatoon guards Lucas Derksen (left) and Parker Olfert (below) and Steinbach Regional’s Ben Wiebe (bottom).

A product of Aden Bowman Collegiate, Derksen received multiple tournament all-star and MVP honors during his Grade 12 year and until recently trained at Saskatchewan’s CP Regional Training Centre. As an under-15, he was selected to team Saskatchewan and represented his home province at the National Championship in Kamloops, BC.

Parker Olfert has also been added to the Blazer squad, after bursting into the Saskatoon Elite Super-6 Spring League this season where he was nominated for league Rookie of the Year.

Olfert averaged 25 points and 10 assists in his Grade 12 year at Rosthern Junior College and received honor as his high school’s Male Athlete of the Year after captaining his team in his final two years of high school. Olfert played club hoops for both the Lumsden Wildcats and Saskatoon Hawks.

Ben Wiebe averaged more than 20 points a game in both of his final two years of high school. The 5’11 shooting guard is a pure-scorer who can break down opponents off the dribble and knock-down his jump-shot with consistency.

The Blazers will tip-off on home court for the first time this season when they host the 3rd annual Holiday Inn Airport West Invitational on October 11, 12 and 13. The tournament features Briercrest College and Medicine Hat College of the Alberta Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA) and the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg of Canada West (CIS).
