German-Bound Kampen Turns Pro

Reigning three-time Most Valuable Player of women’s volleyball in the MCAC, Evelyn Kampen announced this week that she has signed-on to join the professional ranks this September with club-side TV Eiche Horn of Germany’s second Bundesliga.

The 5’10 outside hitter joined the Blazers in 2009 after spending her first two seasons of Canadian university eligibility at Trinity Western in Langley, BC. Since returning to her home province, the graduate of River East Collegiate has been the dominant force of the conference and hopes to find similar success as she takes her abilities abroad.

“There are three divisions of women’s volleyball in Germany to play in,” Kampen explains, “I am told that it will be comparable to high college or university level in Canada.”

Eiche Horn volleyball club is based out of the city of Bremen in north-western Germany. Kampen will be living very close to her younger brother who will also be taking his athletic-career to the professional level, playing hockey in nearby Bremerhaven.

Kampen is scheduled to play her first match with her new club on September 22nd.
