Defense Anchors Valuable Away Point

The CMU women’s soccer team remains undefeated after two MCAC regular season matches, settling for a goal-less draw on Saturday afternoon at Red River College.

Both teams had good chances to score throughout the match. In the opening half, Red River’s Katrina Clark nearly put the Rebels ahead but second-year goalkeeper Kelsey Reimer stood tall to the challenge and defender Rianna Isaak cleared the danger, when the rebound was struck back towards goal.

CMU’s chances came mostly through the tireless work of the central midfield. Heidi Epp and Deanna Zantingh combined with Lauren Harms to snuff-out the Rebels possession and start the counter.

“We got our chances too,” said head coach Tony Mazza, “we were unlucky that we didn’t score one or two in the second-half.”

Reimer kept the scoresheet clean for CMU and will lead the squad into Sunday’s match-up with the Providence Freemen, who sit atop the MCAC women’s soccer standings after defeating the Rebels in week 1. Kick-off is slated for 2pm in Otterburne.
