Blazers Prepare for West Coast Tour

With the start of the MCAC basketball season now four weeks away, the Blazers are putting the finishing touches on their preparations for a preseason West Coast tour that will see them play four games in four days in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

The Blazers get started on Thursday evening when they will tip-off with Kwantlen College in Surrey at 7pm. Next up, CMU will be in Burnaby to take on Douglas College before crossing the Strait of Georgia for a Saturday evening tip-off in Nanaimo against Vancouver Island University. The final game of the tour will be in Victoria on Sunday afternoon against Camosun College before an evening flight back to Winnipeg.

“The trip will be a great opportunity for us to get out and play competition outside of Manitoba,” said second-year guard Matt Koenig, “as well, with a lot of new faces on the team it will be great to get away and gel as a team.”

Camosun, VIU, Kwantlen and Douglas are all long-time members of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Conference – a national conference with regions that extend into every Canadian province outside of Manitoba.

“It is important for us to not only play teams like these four, but to get good results against them,” explained second-year post Sean Baergen.

The Blazers welcome back four returning players this season. Along with Koenig and Baergen, forwards Matej Juric and Jeff Abrahamson will be leaned on heavily for leadership and understanding of head coach Darcy Coss’ system.
