CMU Open Airport-West with Tough Loss

The CMU Blazers men’s basketball team began their home tournament with a 109-71 loss to the Briercrest Clippers Thursday evening. After jumping out to an early lead in the game, the Blazers fell behind late in the first quarter to a determined Clipper squad. Briercest forward Gradyn Childerhose, from Outlook Saskatchewan, had a large hand in giving Briercrest an early lead, racking up 21 points in the first half alone and 29 over the 4 quarters of action.

The first half saw a tight defensive battle with little to no opportunity from inside the paint for the Blazers as the Clippers  forced most of the Blazers’ shots from the outside. When the buzzer sounded to end the first half it was the Briercrest Clippers 47 – CMU Blazers 30.

The second half began with CMU trying to mount a charge. The Blazers came out firing in the third quarter, making five three pointers, two from 6’5 forward Matej Juric, a second-year from Dakota Collegiate. Juric had a great game sinking a total of 25 points. The fourth quarter found the Blazers unable to cut into a solid Briercrest lead. First-year Adam Bergen, a 6’2 forward from MBCI, led the scoring for the Blazers, getting 9 fourth quarter points and a total 15 points on the game. With the buzzer sounding to end the game, the Blazers fall to 0-1 to start the tournament and will face Medicine Hat College on Friday, October 12 at 8
