Blazers Sweep in Dominating Fashion
The CMU men’s volleyball team came ready to play on Thursday as they swept the Les Rouges de St-Boniface in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-19).
It was fast-paced, hard-hitting volleyball right out of the gate. The intense back and forth action had the Blazers ahead in the first set with a 21-18 lead. Les Rouges called a timeout to break up the pace, but CMU simply took the break in stride and finished out the set with a 25-22 win. Shawn Franz, a 6’3 third-year playing left side led the way in the set with 4 kills.
In set 2 St-Boniface were determined to undo their first set loss and jumped out to an early 8-5 lead. CMU battled back, however, to square the set at 10. The two teams exchanged points right to the end of the set with the Blazers coming out on top 25-22. Kieran Enns, a 6’7 first-year middle, was a monster at the net racking up 4 blocks in the second set alone. The intense back and forth action continued in the third set with CMU managing to build a 9-5 lead. The Les Rouges battled back in the set but they could not find an answer against a very skilled Blazers squad. The third set ended with the Blazers on top 25-19, to win the match in straight sets. Enns was a defensive powerhouse, tallying 8 blocks on the game and Franz (9) dominated offensively with 8 kills on the game.
With the win, the Blazers record moves to 1-2 on the season. Their next action is on Tuesday, November 6th, as they head to St. Boniface to take on the Les Rouges once again.
