Rebels Repeat In Route 90 Showdown

IMG_4122The Blazers dropped to 2-5 on the season on Friday night after Jaharqa Metaxas and the first-place Red River Rebels handed the home team a 91-65 loss.

The first-year Rebels guard scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second-half, while he and his teammates broke for 29 fourth-quarter points to put an exclamation point on a game that CMU had gotten themselves back into mid-way through the third-quarter.

It was clear that a big part of the Rebels defensive game-plan was focused on second-year forward Matej Juric. Juric managed a mere 2 points on 1-for-14 shooting in the game. Matt Koenig picked up alot of the slack in the first half, scoring 14 points and dishing-out 4 assists, but he too had a difficult time keeping that rhythm going in the second half, finishing with a team-high 18 points.

IMG_4090First-year forward Stephen Jones was his active-self again for the Blazers scoring 15 points to go with 13 rebounds.

The Blazers will look to rebound in a series of games this Tuesday and Wednesday on home court when they host the Oak Hills Christian College Wolfpack – a program that last week ran into eligibility problems and was forced out of the MCAC league schedule. The games will be played as schedule, though in an exhibition format. Tip-off times are Tuesday at 8pm and Wednesday at 5pm.
