Women’s Hoops Adds Carman Guard

IMG_6111The CMU women’s basketball team is very happy to announce the commitment of Carman Collegiate’s Cassie Wiebe. A 5’8 guard, Wiebe led the Cougars to a fourth-place finish last month at the MHSAA ‘AAA’ Provincial Championships in The Pas.

Wiebe was a statistical-monster in her final year of high school, averaging 22 points, 12 rebounds, 9 steals and 8 assists per game, earning her Rural Tri-Star Athlete of the Week honors last February. She was also selected as a 2013 Provincial All-Star and won tournament MVP honors at the Carmen Cougars home tournament earlier in the season.

“Cassie will be a strong addition to the team on both ends of the court,” says assistant coach Janelle Hume, who was very involved in the recruitment of the Carman guard, “she is a player who can really score the basketball and is incredibly active on the defensive end of the floor too.”

New Blazers head coach Joe Di Curzio will be hosting  their annual Spring Identification Session on Sunday, April 21st as attention shifts to the opening of the 2013-14 season.
