Blazers Score Big With Glenlawn Guard

IMG_6642On the heels of the announcement of Billy Isaac as the new head coach of the CMU men’s basketball team, the program is pleased to announce the commitment of Glenlawn Collegiate guard Evan Bruce for the 2013-14 season. The 6’2 scorer led the Lions to the SCAC title in his Grade 12 year and to the “AAAA” Boy’s Provincials last March.

“Evan is a competitor whose deep, consistent jump-shot makes him a threat from anywhere on the floor,” says Isaac when speaking about Bruce’s skill-set.

Bruce has a few ties to CMU through former Blazer-head coaches. Jon Wolfe served as both an assistant coach and head coach with CMU until 2009 before moving on to Glenlawn where he has coached Bruce for three seasons.

Recent head coach, Darcy Coss, himself an alumni of Glenlawn, coached Bruce with the Provincial Team in 2010. “Evan possesses a natural ability to score the basketball. He is a very good catch and shoot player and plays very well in transition.”

Coss and Bruce helped Team ‘Toba to a bronze medal appearance that summer; an accomplishment that received significant media attention locally as the Manitobans drove into in the National boys basketball spotlight.

Bruce and the Blazers will open their preseason schedule at home on Friday, September 27th when they tip-off with the Providence Freemen as part of CMU’s 2013 Fall Festival events before traveling to Edmonton for the Alberta Basketball University Showcase Tournament October 3-5.
