Route 90 Soccer Showdown Renewed

0T8A0993-XLThree critical early season points will be on the line on Saturday afternoon when MCAC women’s soccer rivals clash at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex at 12:00pm. In three regular season meetings between the two Winnipeg-based schools in 2012, the Blazers and Rebels could not find a winner, splitting the points in each and every game.

Early in 2013, the two teams sit on three points after taking wins over conference-newcomers Assiniboine last weekend, and are locked in a three-way battle with Providence. “This match is certainly important for us,” says co-coach Tony Mazza, “The women have worked hard on their technical and tactical play during the first two weeks of the season, our fitness is coming, and we are looking forward to an opportunity again to show the fans that our hard-work in practice will produce an exciting game.”

Kyra Neufeld, (pictured) helped minimize the danger against ACC in the Blazers 2-0 win on Sunday in Brandon and will have her hands full on Saturday against a goal-hungry Rebels side that features the current MCAC goal-scoring leader Leah Single, who tallied four goals when RRC opened their season against the Cougars with a 6-0 win.

Gates open at 11:30am at the John Scouras Field (Winnipeg Soccer Complex) on Saturday morning. Admission is free for CMU Students and $3 for Adults over 18. This weekend will mark the first opportunity for supporters to Adopt a Blazer, providing you with a player photo for your fridge featuring the Blazer you choose to adopt, a 2013-14 two season passes to all CMU home games in soccer, basketball, volleyball and futsal and a tax receipt in the amount of your contribution.
