Little Caesars Athletes of the Month – September

0T8A0557-XLIMG_7148Congratulations to Breanna Heinrichs of the Women’s Soccer Team and Blayne Stobbe of the Men’s Soccer Team for being selected the Little Caesars Athletes of the Month for September.

Adjusting to a new position in central defense, Heinrichs has helped the Blazers emerge as a contender in the MCAC this season. The Women’s Soccer team is riding a modest two-game winning streak and currently sits second in the conference.

The greatest test for the Blazers back-four came last weekend in Thunder Bay, where CMU held the powerful Lakehead ThunderWolves to two goals, drew 2-2 with Confederation College and kept a clean-sheet versus TBWSC (Thunder Bay Women’s Soccer Club). Heinrichs was key in the defensive effort, showing herself to be a defender who refuses to concede.

IMG_78210T8A0574-XLIn his third-season with CMU, Stobbe has established himself as a leader for the Blazers from his position in goal. The graduate of SRSS has led CMU to a run of form, now six matches without a loss, claiming 9 of a possible 12 points from conference play.

The opening match of the ThunderHawk Invitational last weekend, was highlighted by three Stobbe saves that allowed CMU the opportunity to score a second-half equalizer that started the Blazers trophy run. In Sunday’s final match versus Lakehead, Stobbe’s late first half save to keep the score 1-0, was even more crucial for CMU, as the Blazers mounted yet another second-half comeback to claim their first trophy since 2003.manager-little-caesars-pizza_5170467
