Lisbon Libero Leads Men’s Soccer Recruits

The CMU men's soccer team is pleased to announce the addition of Portuguese-born, Afonso Arrais for the 2014-2015 MCAC soccer season. As a youth, Arrais competed for Casa Pia FC, Athletico Cacem, and Palmense at the district-level and Real Sport Clube of the Portuguese National League at the under-18 level.

"We are thrilled to be able to add a player of Afonso's experience to our group and know that he will bring confidence and leadership in the middle of the pitch," says head coach Russell Willms, "he fit in immediately with the team during his visit, and we are all excited to have him with us in a more permanent way next year."

Arrais visited and trained with the Blazers in January and returned to Lisbon earlier this month. He plans to return to Canada in June or early July to get better settled in Winnipeg before beginning his studies at CMU and preparing for the 2014 MCAC season in September.
