MCAC Volleyball Championships Land at CMU

Six have become four and four will become one, this weekend when the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference's top teams challenge for gold at the 2014 Volleyball Final Fours proudly hosted by CMU Athletics.
CMU held off the late charge of Red River to claim the final berth in the Championship and will face three-time women's champions, Providence, Friday night at 6 pm. The Pilots captured #1 on their final weekend of regular season play with a 3-2 win over University of St-Boniface to finish ahead of the University of Winnipeg, though both teams finished with a record of 18-2.
The other women's semi will see the College Wesmen against St-Boniface in the first semi-final, Friday afternoon at 2 pm. Winnipeg defeated Les Rouges in all four meetings during the regular season with half their matches requiring a tiebreak to determine a winner.
The CMU men will try to find their January form that saw the Blazers take wins over the top-two men's seeds, University of Winnipeg and Red River only to fall into a rough patch in February to finish the season. Ranked third, the Blazers will battle the five-time defending champion Rebels in Friday's 8 pm semi-final while the #1 ranked College Wesmen will tackle the 10-10 Providence Pilots who are flying-high after ending their season on a two-match winning streak, including a victory of the University of St-Boniface that ended Les Rouges playoff hopes.
Day passes are $5 and are available at the gate. All matches take place at CMU's Loewen Athletic Centre, 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard.
