Championship-Bound Blazers Bounce No. 1

0-5 was the Blazers record versus University of Winnipeg this season; four regular season meetings as well as a second-round clash at the MCAC-NIAC Crossover in North Dakota last November. Despite those five losses, none of it mattered tonight.

First-year guard Ryan Kehler was named Player of the Game, dropping 32 points and adding 6 rebounds in over 42 minutes played to help the Blazers knock-off the #1 College Wesmen in overtime at the 2014 MCAC Men's Basketball Semi-Finals in Otterburne to charge their way into Saturday's Final.

The Blazers led after each quarter but saw the veteran-laden University of Winnipeg squad claw-back to knot the game at 77-77 at the end of regulation on two free-throws from Denzel Green. CMU's All-Conference selection Sam Kinsley had a mammoth performance on the glass, grabbing 20 boards to lead all rebounders.

With the win, CMU find themselves in the Conference Championship for the first time since 2012 and will look to win their first Championship since 2008, when the MCAC was still known as the Central Plains Athletic Conference.

In Friday's other men's semi, the reigning Champions and #2-ranked Red River Rebels pushed their way into tomorrow's final with a convincing 66-50 win over the host Providence Pilots on 17 points from former CMU guard Kevin Quirante.

Fans can witness this epic clash for the 2014 MCAC Men's Basketball Championship Saturday evening at 8 PM in Otterburne, Manitoba at Providence University College.
