Men’s Soccer Recruit Brings International Edge

The CMU Men's Soccer Team is very pleased to announce the addition of Zimbabwean central defender Michael Veremu for the upcoming 2014 MCAC soccer season.

Amongst his soccer accomplishments, Veremu captained his high school, Midlands Christian College (MCC), to a third-place finish at the International Schools of South Africa tournament comprised of teams from Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. MCC finished their season third in the ten-team CHISZ International High School League of Zimbabwe and also finished second at the Kambarami Tournament, marking end of Veremu's high school career.

"Michael has really shown commitment in pursuit of the opportunity to play with our team and I am confident that he can make an impact during his time with our program," says head coach Russell Willms, "Michael possesses the physical tools to be an excellent center-half in our conference and his experience suggests to me that he can fit very nicely into our group."

Veremu was recognized through his play by a local academy (GSA) where he has trained and played for two seasons. From GSA, Veremu was selected in an elite group of players to train and play in a series of friendlies with with the reserves of two famed-South African professional clubs; Kaiser Chiefs and Sundowns FC.

Veremu and the Men's Soccer team are scheduled to host the Lakeland College Rustlers (ACAC) of Lloydminster, Alberta, in a preseason friendly at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex, August 31 before kicking off their conference season the following Sunday at home versus the Red River Rebels.
