CMU Soccer Heads To Ontario For ThunderHawk Invitational

The CMU Women's Soccer team will follow the Highway of Heroes east to Thunder Bay on Friday afternoon to compete this weekend in the 2014 Confederation College ThunderHawk Invitational at Chapples Park.

This is the fourth year that the Blazers have attended the tournament on the shores of Lake Superior and after making significant strides in 2013, the team has higher expectations going in to this year's competition.

The Blazers begin Saturday morning against powerful Lakehead University. The Blazers fell 8-0 to the ThunderWolves in 2012, but improved to a 1-0 defeat in 2014. Later that day, CMU kick-offs with the host, Confederation College. A result of 6-0 happened in 2012, but in 2013 Lauren Harms' second-half header salvaged a 1-1 draw; a major stride for the Women's Soccer Program.

On Sunday morning, CMU's final opponent will be the Thunder Bay Express. Kick-off is scheduled for 10am. The combined points of the three matches will make one of the four teams the 2014 ThunderHawk Tournament Champions.

The Men's team is also in action this weekend in Thunder Bay, defending the trophy they won in 2013. The Blazers have scheduled matches against Confederation College and Lakehead University on Saturday and Sunday. Fans can follow the scores on the Blazer Athletics Twitter and Facebook pages.

The next home action for the Men's and Women's Soccer teams is Saturday, October 4th when CMU hosts Providence at 1pm and 3pm at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
