Women's Basketball Opens Their Recruitment Season With Linden Christian Guard

CMU Women's Basketball is pleased to announce the commitment of Linden Christian's Sarah Townsend for the 2015-16 season. The 5'9 guard was recently recognized by Manitoba High School Sports as the Athlete of the Week for her tournament MVP performance in the St. Norbert Celtics Classic where she averaged 33 points per game, including a career high 40 point effort in the championship final that saw Townsend drop an amazing 11 three pointers.

"Sarah is one of the top three-point shooters in high school basketball in Manitoba this year," said head coach Joe di Curzio, who is entering the home stretch of the 2014-15 conference schedule and prepping for MCAC playoffs. Townsend also had a tournament MVP performance earlier this season at the Lorette Classic.

Townsend played a key role for the Wings in her Grade 11 year as she helped Linden Christian make the jump to 'AAAA' en route to the 2014 MHSAA Final Fours. As her team returns to 'AAA' for her Grade 12 year, Townsend is co-captaining the Wings and has her eyes set on winning the 2015 'AAA' Provincials Championship, a trophy she first won with Linden in Grade 10.

Townsend plays her club basketball for the Winnipeg Wolves and was also a member of the under-17 Team Manitoba practice squad.

"Sarah possesses a terrific basketball IQ and comes from a passionate basketball family," added di Curzio, "we are glad to have her joining our Blazer basketball family."
