Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake Male Athlete of the Month - January
Congratulations to Jon Hayter of the Men's Basketball Team on being selected the Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake Male Athlete of the Month for January. The rookie from Pinawa had three very noteworthy performances this month.
First, Hayter's 22 point output had CMU come within three minutes of knocking off the first place Red River Rebels. Then, two weeks later Hayter hit for another 22 points in a non-conference loss to the Trinity Lions in Ellendale, North Dakota.
On January 22nd at the Duckworth Centre the first year guard stepped into the spotlight, earning himself MCAC Athlete of the Week honours and helping his team to a 88-76 win over the College Wesmen. On this night, Hayter would set a CMU rookie-record, scoring 35 points to go with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.
"Jon has displayed his high motor all season for us," said CMU head coach Billy Isaac, "He has worked extremely hard in every practice and that hard work is paying off in our games."
Hayter and the Blazers play their final regular season home game this Friday night when they welcome the College Wesmen to the Loewen. CMU is also proud to host the 2015 MCAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships coming February 14th and 15th.
