Men's Soccer Welcomes Local Academy Product With "Big Club" Experience

The CMU Men's Soccer team is happy to announce the commitment of Oak Park's Aidan Beckingham for the 2015-16 season. The left-footer is currently playing as a member of Granite United in the Admiral Premier League of the Manitoba Major Soccer League; a club affiliated with the academy that Beckingham has trained with since his childhood, Focus 9.

"Aidan is a very complete player," commented head coach Russell Willms, who is entering his eighth season with the Blazers, "he has an excellent sense for possession and combination play and is a powerful attacking player whether positioned as an outside fullback or an attacking wide player."

As a youth, Beckingham applied his craft with WYSA premier youth clubs, Portage Trails, Phoenix and South End United before moving into senior men's as a sixteen year old in 2014. He was also a member of the Manitoba Under 16 Boys Provincial Team in 2012.

Recently Beckingham had the enviable opportunity of training and playing abroad with the internationally-recognized Belgian team Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht where he trained with the youth reserves and featured in a few tournaments and friendlies for the professional club from February to May.

"Aidan's experience coming from Focus 9 and from three months of training with Anderlecht have helped make him one of the most gifted technical players we have had come into our program," added Willms, "I am really looking forward to Aidan becoming a key player for us this season and in future years."

Beckingham and the Blazers will kickoff the 2015 preseason on September 6 when they welcome the Lakeland Rustlers from Lakeland College in Lloydminister, Alberta for a friendly match to be played at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex. The Rustlers were ranked as high as fifth nationally and finished first in the Alberta Collegiate Athletic Conference at the end of the 2014 regular season. Match time is scheduled for 1 pm.
