Women's Soccer Scores Talented Local Midfielder
The CMU Women's Soccer Team is very happy to announce the commitment of former Calvin Christian and Phoenix Soccer Club midfielder Naomi Klassen for the 2015 season.
"Naomi is athletic and very strong," said new women's soccer co-coach Lianna Bestvater, "She has good vision on the field and is able to make great passes that exploit open spaces."
Klassen credits much of her recent development to intrumural co-ed soccer scrimmages that she took part in last year while studying abroad at Holsby Brunn Bible School, a Torchbearers Bible School based in Sweden, but the midfielder's youth development was grown locally with the Phoenix Soccer Club and Gateway Community Centre where Klassen played until the under 16 level.
In her late high school years at Calvin Christian, Klassen helped her team to a Zone 12 Championship and a 2014 provincial berth in grade 12 year and was the recipient of the prestigious Governer General of Canada's Award for the top academic score in her graduating class.
"We are really excited to have Naomi joining us this season," added Cara Isaak, who will co-coach with Bestvater in their first seasons of involvement with Blazers Women's Soccer, "Naomi is able to move the ball with real presicion through the midfield. I think she can make a real impact in our team and conference as a first year player."
Klassen is expected to add even more quality to a rapidly developing CMU Women's Soccer program that many are expecting to challenge for their first MCAC Championship since 2008. The Blazers begin their quest on September 12th when they host the Brandon Bobcats at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex in their first home action of the new season.
