A Fifth Member of Winnipeg Wolves Joins The Blazers Pack

The CMU Women's Basketball team is very happy to announce the commitment of Kildonan East's Martina Akot for the 2015-16 season. The 5'6 guard capped her grade 12 year by leading the Reivers to their first MHSAA 'AAAA' Girls Basketball Provincial Championships for the first time in over a decade.

"Martina is an excellent athlete with terrific defensive abilities," said CMU head coach Joe Di Curzio, "her offensive skills are equally impressive, especially her ability to take the ball to the basket."

Akot shone in her final season of high school averaging 11 points per game and 5 rebounds. She was selected a tournament all-star in tournaments at Pembina Trails, Tec Voc, Maples and her own high school's Kildonan East Classic.

"Martina is a good finisher around the basket and can penetrate off the dribble to set up her teammates." added Di Curzio.

Akot will not have to look far to see familiar faces on the court this year with the Blazers. She is one of five members of the Winnipeg Wolves Club basketball team (Kristiann Leighton, Mobina Mosallat, Rhianna Nelson and Sarah Townsend) who are transitioning together into university and the MCAC at CMU.

Akot and the Blazers will open their preseason on Friday, September 25th when they host the Briercrest Clippers of the ACAC as part of CMU's Fall Festival.
